MAR PD-70C

MAR PD-70C crystal is dissolved in water and used as a pre-dip prior to the MAR CT-74 ACTIVATOR. This low acid solution prepares the substrate surface for uniform absorption of the palladium activator while minimizing copper attack of the inner layers of multi-layer panels.

Advantages of the MAR PD-70C process include:
  • Low acid normality which reduces copper attack and palladium decay of catalyst
  • Increased catalyst deposition which produces reliable adhesive deposit.
SOLUTION MAKE-UP
DI Water 100%
MAR PD-70C 125 g/l

After addition of MAR PD-70C, analyze the normality and adjust as required.

6.75 ml/l of hydrochloric acid will increase normality by 0.01. Maintain normality in the range of 0.20 to 0.25N.

SOLUTION MAINTENANCE

The MAR PD-70C solution should be discarded when 500 surface square feet of boards are processed per gallon of made-up solution or when copper reaches 1 mg/l.

OPERATING PARAMETERS
Range Optimum
MAR PD-70C 100 – 130 g/l 125 g/l
Normality 0.20 – 0.25 N 0.22 N
Temperature 20°C 20 - 25°C

***Analysis to be done daily***

EQUIPMENT
Tanks: Polypropylene, HD Polyethylene, PVC
Heaters: Teflon, Teflon coated SS, Quartz
Ventilation: Required.
Filtration Recommended. Continuous filtration through a 10 micron polypro filter tube is advisable at 3 to 4tank volume turnovers per hour.
Agitation: Recommended. Work rod agitation to maximize movement of solution through holes is recommended. DO NOT USE AIR AGITATION!!
Vibration: Recommended for small hole and high aspect ratio boards.
ANALYSIS OF STANNOUS CHLORIDE
  1. Reagents Required
    1. Weighing scale to 2 decimal points
    2. 50 ml. graduated plastic beaker
    3. 10 ml. pipette
  2. Method
    1. Acquire a 10 ml sample from working bath.
    2. Place a 50ml graduated plastic beaker on scale and zero the scale.
    3. Add 10 ml of working solution to the plastic beaker
    4. Record weight of solution.
  3. Calculation
    1. Weight of pre-dip solution/10 = specific gravity
    2. g/l PD-70C pre-dip salt = (specific gravity x 1694.92) – 1709.15

    Maintain between 125 g/l
